Caleb Ferris is an artist and designer whose sculptural work gives symbols and familiar forms new lives in unlikely contexts. Drawing from observation and an evolving vocabulary of motifs, he shifts scale, material, and function to make the familiar feel unfamiliar. At times playful and at others ambiguous, his work considers how forms accumulate associations, how those associations can be disrupted, and how fragments of the past might be transformed for the future.
Trained in Industrial Design at Pratt Institute, Ferris spent a decade working in design before establishing his independent artistic practice. That experience gave him a fluency in production and fabrication that he now works both with and against, balancing precision with improvisation and allowing material and process to redirect the work as it takes shape.
